Emancipated or Exploited?

This is an article that I wrote quite a long time ago but I still like it. The movie is soo..good. So, enjoy the article…

My Blueberry Nights is pretty much my first introduction with Wong Kar Wai’s work. I’ve known his reputation for quite a while especially through his work 2046 and his role in Festival De Cannes in 2006 if I’m not mistaken. People say that 2046 is a unique work, kind of surrealistic, but a movie reviewer that I trust the most said that the movie is too confusing, so I decided not to watch it. Now, here I am, stunned with My Blueberry Nights that I just watched few hours ago.

We, me and my sister, choose to buy the DVD of My Blueberry Nights because it simply tells the story about women, and partly because it’s Jude Law and Natalie Portman. I’m in love with those two, especially Natalie Portman. Well, after watching the movie I can say that we have made the right decision. The movie was great, sweet, and soft, like eating a piece of blueberry pie with an ice cream and listening to jazz in the afternoon. Not too romantic, but sweet, nice, and cozy.

For me, the movie answer a simple yet very deep question, how far would you go just to cross the street? In life we always involve with series of event that break us down. These events mostly related to relationship. People can be good at what their doing professionally, academically, artistically, or whatever things that become their passion. However, when it comes to relationship, people can be real smart and real stupid at the same time. Moreover, we tend to keep the same pattern of a roller coaster ride of relationship that almost always ended up in a painful broken heart. Yes, we will repeat that same pattern over and over again until the patterns suddenly hits you hard enough to make you realize that love shouldn’t be such a hard work just like what Dorothy Boyd said to Jerry Maguire.
So, how far would you go to realize that it’s not that hard to cross the street? To embrace what can be closely define as love although the word love is not on the scene. Watch My Blueberry Nights and you’ll find out.
